Our History
The Historic Bath Foundation, Inc. was organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes to serve the Bath area to assist in preserving, restoring, and developing the historical culture of Bath. Founded in 1705, Bath is North Carolina’s oldest town, its origin and history are vital to our nation and every North Carolinian. The treasures of Bath belong to everyone.
What We Do
We collaborate and work to encourage, advocate, preserve, protect, promote and financially support the historic aspects and architectural heritage of the Town of Bath and surrounding area.
Mission
- Aid the Historic Bath Commission and the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources in acquiring historic objects and developing historic properties, interpretations and functions.
- Work cooperatively with the Historic Bath Commission, the Historic Bath State Historic Site, the Town of Bath and other civic groups who are working towards preserving and telling the complete and true story of Bath.
- Become a proactive leader, bringing all like-minded groups together, to facilitate charitable contributions and educational attributes.
Featured Projects
Over the years, the Historic Bath Foundation has provided funds to the Town Council for several key projects within the historic village.
The following are a few of those projects:
- Tree City USA
- Bath High School Feasibility Study
- Lawson Walk at Bowen Avenue
- Large Grant offered to the Town to assist in completing their Historic District Commission Architectural Guidelines. Deferred by town.
- The Historic Bath Foundation was also very involved with Historic Bath's Tricentennial Celebration. The Town, Historic Bath Commission and the Foundation collaborated on many aspects of planning in order to bring forth a year full of celebration activities. The Foundation's primary function during this time was to act as the fundraising arm throughout the year.
- Fully funded the Craven Street Cemetery fence.
